Resumen:

Override, Dogfight, and Backstreet are traveling across the desert planet of Cheyne when they see a gang of outlaws hunting a child. The Autobots save the child and scaring off the riders, who warn that things aren't as they appear. The child's family is grateful; Hud, the father, persuades the Autobots to stay for a rest.

Inside a Decepticon starship approaching Cheyne, Siren, Nightbeat, and Hosehead are strapped to a mind-tap device. Thunderwing interrogates them about the Matrix Quest, but with no success. He then orders his crew to land as he dreams of siezing the Matrix's power.

That night, Hud tells the Autobots that his family is being persecuted because the town's officials want to buy their farmland. Dogfight is startled when he sees a monstrous shadow outside the window, but a quick check reveals nothing. Hud convinces the Autobots to spend the night.

On the Ark, Optimus Prime enters a meditative trance, hoping to reach out to the Matrix. He senses that the Matrix has been tainted by evil, but when he tries to see into the future, he detects nothing but oblivion...

The next day, the Autobots are working happily on the farm, all thoughts of the Matrix forgotten. Dogfight and Hud enter the town; they are spotted by the riders, who bemoan that Dogfight is lost. The Decepticons appear, but when Thunderwing asks about the Matrix, Dogfight does not understand. The Decepticons then attack, and Hud runs away in the confusion. Concluding that Dogfight is under mental control, Thunderwing leaves. Dogfight regains his senses, but is torn between his obligation to duty and the peaceful life on the farm.

Back at the farm, everyone is in the barn when Dogfight bursts in. He threatens Hud at gunpoint to tell the truth; the family reveal themselves as hideous psychic vampires, and explain that they kept the Autobots entralled in order to slowly feast on their life-forces. A fight breaks out, and the vampires are quickly killed. The Autobots are left wondering if fighting can ever be justified, and if they will ever see an end to the conflict that fills their lives.
