Resumen:

At the Cascade Vista Motel outside Portland, Oregon, Spike Witwicky visits his father, Sparkplug. While Spike is trying to decide how to tell his father that he is now a Headmaster (following events last issue), Sparkplug receives a telephone call from agent Walter Barnett of the Intelligence and Information Institute. Barnett tells Sparkplug that his son Buster is safe, but is a prisoner of the Decepticons. Spike traces the call by holding the phone wire; when Sparkplug asks about this, Spike reveals his Headmaster status. Sparkplug is upset by this, because now both of his sons are endangered by the Transformers. Spike tries to reassure Sparkplug, and vows to rescue Buster.

Using a shuttlecraft, the Autobots soon track Buster to the Decepticon's artificial island in the Florida Keys (first revealed in issue #28). The Autobot Targetmasters and Headmasters head out to rescue Buster, but Kup insists that Fortress Maximus stay behind. Spike's inexperience and emotional involvement might endanger him, though he can help provide cover for the others. Unfortunately, the Autobots are not successful: between the Decepticons themselves and the island's defense systems, they are quickly overwhelmed.

As the Autobots retreat to the shuttle, the island transforms into its spaceship mode and blasts off for space. Seeing this, Fortress Maximus jumps for the base and catches on; Shockwave activates the base's defenses, and Fort Max is stabbed by a giant spear. Fort Max's head detatches, transforms to Cerebros, and continues the chase, but is shot down by Shockwave. In response, Spike detaches from Cerebros, then remote-controls Fort Max's leg cannons to fire at Shockwave. The blast destroys Shockwave's foot-jets, causing him to plummet to Earth and burn up in the atmosphere. Unfortunately, during the battle, Ratbat pilots the island-ship away and the Decepticons escape.

Later, Fortress Maximus reunites with the other Autobots, and Spike is morose about his failure to save Buster. But the other Autobots noted that Spike acted with courage and bravery -- and not irrational misdeeds -- and fully accept him into their ranks.
